Love's Lesson

Love’s Lesson

In the Þrymskviða, by tragic blight
Great Þorr loses his weapon’s might.
Found it was in Jotun Land
Held by evil Þrym’s hand.

Then Loke in guise found
That only would Þrym give it back
If by boon he won Freyja’s hand.
So Þorr burst upon Loving Freyja’s door.

He demanded she with folly pretend
To be the Jotun’s wife.
Just long enough for him to grab his weapon
And end the Jotun king’s life.

Yet, Freyja, furious at his broach of her consent
The dwelling of the Gods was shaken
And the Brisingamen, a weapon forged in love
Fell broken to the floor.

For torn was she in her love for Þorr
At his cruel disregard for her Self.
The very object that gave her might
Fell from her and much more.

Then in great wisdom, from the God who Unites
Holy Heimdall gave wise council
To both Gods who had lost their
Weapons fashioned in Dwarven forge.

He suggested that Þorr take the mighty
Necklace woven with the power of Love:
To travel as Freyja into Þrym’s court
And by only his efforts, regain his power once more.

For the Gods know that all power comes from
Self to Self sacrificed, and being true to one’s calling
Regardless the suffering or the price.
For the way of the Gods is paved with each choice.

And through humiliation and trial,
As mighty Þorr wore the greatest weapon forged in Love
Learned the plight of all women
And in his understanding, his power was handed back to him.

And while afterwards the victorious bloodbath
Adds to his known prowess among the Realms,
Many forget that his might was returned after testing
While wielding the greatest weapon forged in Love.
