Ja Und Nein

There are two powers of Norns

That weave the very fibers of

The Mighty Yggdrasil.

The powers of Ja und Nein.

Nein are the Norns that

Live in the breath that says

“No”. “Not now”. “Not me”.

It is a retracting power.

Nein is the power of Autumn and Winter

When Sunna fades and leaves wither

Nein is the power of slumber

And rest for the weary at heart.

Nein is the way of closing

Of forming the hardened shells of seeds

Of rough bark and cold roots

And the loving embrace of Hel.

Ja are the Norns that

Live in the breath that says

“Yes”. “Right now”. “Take me”.

It is an unfolding power.

Ja is the power of Spring and Summer

When Sunna returns and the buds blossom

Ja is the power of Jord’s fecund fields

And the wild ecstatic joy of life itself.

Ja is the way of opening

Of the green leek that thrusts from underground

Of buds and blossoms

And the life giving Fehu of Asgard.

Both Ja und Nein

Live in the hearts of every man

And the choice to say “no” or “yes”

Every man must make for his own.
